A couple years ago we talked about Deane's on 101 north of Yachats. I Noticed that Tillacum Campground is next door, walkable by beach or road. No group site, but several sites that but up to the beach. Each site has 8 person limit. We could book a few sites for campers and several rooms at Deane's. Beach BBQ/bon fire/party on the beach. The ride would be epic, meet Portland riders in Philomath, ride out HWY 34 (103 miles), come back through Florence via HWY 36 (104 miles). For Portland, it would be 148 via 99E/Corvallis. Currently, Portland to South Beach Newport is 137 with heavy 101 traffic. While I prefer single day, we could do 2 day.
Yes, it's a little further south. I'm open for something new too. Beverly Beach is an option, north of Newport. Not many options until you go Cape Lookout, north of Pacific City. They have been unpredictable for availability in the past. Their new group sites are currently closed. I like the old idea of meeting Portland and riding together to camp, but HWY 18/22 from Salem are much more busier than the past, and that wasn't great.
OK, discussion last night points to South Beach State Park in Newport, August 26-28
As of today, the state is allowing as far out at July, so check every week...
Tillicum CG is a great little spot. My wife and I have camped there many times. Beach access is via two stairways and the camp grounds along the ocean have a view from about 15' up on this ledge. The best spots are in the southwest area of the campground, especially for a bunch of tents.
And I agree with English Dave - great job putting this years together. I didn't get to participate in the full weekend, but it was still a blast....
All good idea's. Two day is less of a rush than one day. By the way , good job on the organizing and facilitating this year. You did get the right people to take care of the weather.
